LeBron James Named Western Conference NBA All-Star 2023 Captain

LeBron James was named an All-Star for the 19th time in his career and a captain for the sixth time. His 19th straight selection passes Kobe Bryant for most all-time and his 19th overall selection ties him with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for most selections in NBA history.

James led all players in All-Star voting for the seventh consecutive season and the 10th time overall.

A three-time NBA All-Star Game MVP and the contest’s all-time leading scorer, James has started an NBA-record 18 straight All-Star games and has been named a captain in every year since the NBA switched to the current format, holding a perfect 5-0 record as the team captain.

Fans accounted for 50% of the vote to determine the starters for the 2023 NBA All-Star Game.  Current NBA players and a media panel accounted for 25% each. See full voting results.

TNT will announce the All-Star reserves, as selected by NBA head coaches, on Thursday, Feb. 2 during TNT NBA Tip-Off.

Anthony Davis Returns to Lead Lakers Past Spurs

n the second night of a back-to-back, the Lakers got some much-needed reinforcements in their lineup and took down the Spurs 113-104 to sweep the season series 4-0 over their old Texas rival.

The story of the night was Anthony Davis making his return to the lineup after missing the last 20 games with a right foot stress injury. Playing on a reduced minutes load, AD came off the bench and eased his way back into things after missing so much time. He moved around the court freely, but did so with a bit more caution as he adjusted to the timing and physicality of NBA action.

As the game went on, however, AD began to get more and more comfortable, flashing his trademarked dominance on defense while mixing in parts of his vast offensive repertoire. Whether he was smothering a backdoor cut with a challenge at the rim, blocking a shot attempt in the restricted area, burying a long jumper, or getting an offensive rebound for a put back, the longer the game went on the more AD looked like himself.

Davis finished the night with 21 points, 12 rebounds, and four blocks in 26 minutes, but even more impressive is the fact that in his 26 minutes of game action the Lakers posted a defensive rating of 86.4, a major factor in the team being a +8 in the box score in those minutes.

Los Angeles Lakers Teams Up with L.A. Works at the Annual MLK Day of Service

This year, the Los Angeles Lakers honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy by teaming up with L.A. Works to volunteer at the annual Martin Luther King Jr Day of Service. Los Angeles Lakers and South Bay Lakers staff joined over 1,300 Angelenos at Los Angeles Coliseum. The day was focused on empowering the Los Angeles community to take collective action into climate justice.

While climate change affects low-income communities, they also have access to foods and are bearing a disproportionate impact from climate disruptions. Los Angeles Lakers and South Bay Lakers staff rotated through eco-action stations, including creating urban green education kits, assembling disaster preparation kits and building planters.

The annual MLK Day of Service was a day of reflection on the dreams Dr. King had for our country and a meaningful day of positive impact on the Los Angeles Community.

Lakers TEAM UP with School on Wheels for Holiday Shopping 2022

On Thursday, December 8th, the Los Angeles Lakers staff, South Bay Lakers staff, and the Laker Girls gathered for the annual TEAM Up Holiday Target Shopping event.

With holiday spirit in the air and wish lists in hand, staff and the Laker Girls strived to make this holiday season special for 11 underserved families from School on Wheels. Each of the teams were tasked with providing essential family needs along with special requested items for the kids.

As the shopping spree at Target concluded, with staff gathered to watch every gift get crossed off each wish list, everyone returned to the UCLA Health Training Center to wrap the presents for a special delivery to all the families.

After an afternoon of holiday music, gift-wrapping, and bow placing, presents were delivered to School on Wheels and given to the families.

This magical event is where Lakers’ staff and the Laker Girls get together and uplift those who are in need. This is a highlight of the Los Angeles Lakers Team Up Program of each year, where we look to give back to those in need during the holiday season.
